A new approach to precision measurement
AVO Invents is developing an advanced optical sensing technology for detecting extremely small movements and vibrations without physical contact. Our research has demonstrated sensitivity to subtle mechanical movement, supporting further development for precision measurement and industrial monitoring.
The technology is being explored for manufacturing inspection, machinery condition monitoring and applications where small changes in movement or material dimensions matter. Its underlying sensing architecture remains commercially confidential.
A key advantage: avoiding cumulative integration drift
Conventional inertial systems can estimate position by integrating acceleration over time. Small measurement errors can accumulate through that process, producing positional drift.
Our optical approach does not depend on that acceleration-integration method to detect movement. This provides an important potential advantage for stable measurement over time, without the same source of cumulative integration drift. As with any precision measurement technology, overall performance can still be affected by environmental conditions and calibration.
Material thickness inspection
Non-contact measurement of material thickness is a particularly promising manufacturing application. The sensing approach can be adapted and calibrated for different materials, with the aim of identifying thickness variations in sheet stock, manufactured components and processed materials.
Potential uses include in-line inspection, production consistency checks and quality-control monitoring, reducing the need to physically contact the material being inspected.
Industrial vibration and motion monitoring
Motors, manufacturing machinery and mechanical assemblies produce characteristic vibration patterns. Small changes can indicate variation in operating conditions, machine performance or developing mechanical problems.
Our optical sensing research investigates the capture of subtle movements and vibration signatures as an additional source of information for industrial condition monitoring and precision motion analysis.
Future applications
The same underlying research may support further investigation in medical technology, scientific instrumentation and other precision-measurement environments. These are potential applications for development and evaluation, not claims of clinical validation.
Research and development
AVO Invents continues to investigate sensitivity, repeatability, calibration and performance under different operating conditions. Specific methods and parts of the sensing architecture are withheld to protect commercially sensitive research and intellectual property.
